The First Session of the Second Governing Board of UNESCO-ICHEI Successfully Held

On November 6, 2020, the First Session of the Second Governing Board of International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) was successfully held in Shenzhen Civil Centre. The meeting was chaired by NIE Xinping, Deputy Mayor of Shenzhen Municipality and Chair of the Governing Board of UNESCO-ICHEI.


Other members of the Governing Board attended the meeting, including
– ZHANG Lailin, Second-Level Inspector of Shenzhen Education Bureau (commissioned by CHEN Qiuming, Director of Shenzhen Education Bureau);
– CHEN Yidan, Core Founder of Tencent, Founder of the Tencent Charity Foundation;
– CHEN Siqi, Member of the University Council, Secretary General, Director of University and Party Affairs Office of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) (commissioned by CHEN Shiyi, President of SUSTech);
– WANG Libin, Chief of Education Innovation and Skills Development at Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education of UNESCO (UNESCO Bangkok);
– LI Ming, Director of UNESCO-ICHEI;
– TANG Qian, Former Assistant Director General for Education of UNESCO;
– QIN Changwei, Secretary General of Chinese National Commission for UNESCO.


Also present at the meeting were HAN Wei, Executive Deputy Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, LI Fan, Assistant Director and Chief of Asia Pacific Programme Office of UNESCO-ICHEI, BI Xiaohan, Chief of West-Asia and Africa Programme Office of UNESCO-ICHEI and FENG Siyuan, Co-Director of IIOE Management Centre of UNESCO-ICHEI.

During the meeting, the appointment letter was presented to LI Ming for the position of Director of UNESCO-ICHEI. The Governing Board Members listened to UNESCO-ICHEI's work report in 2020 and work plan for 2021, audited its budgetary plan for 2021, and listened to the collaboration plan in the Asia Pacific, West-Asian and African regions, and the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) project progress and the future development plan.

Members of the Governing Board had a discussion based on the above reports. They highly appraised the remarkable achievements made by the UNESCO-ICHEI, and put forward relevant suggestions. TANG Qian suggested that UNESCO-ICHEI should continue to pay attention to the trends of global education development and consider how to make use of various platforms to work better. When carrying out international cooperation, we should notice the geopolitics, make good use of the influence of UNESCO, and carry out South-South North cooperation. CHEN Yidan mentioned that UNESCO-ICHEI should further develop online education, exert its unique influence to better facilitate the education digitalization in different regions. QIN Changwei expressed that UNESCO-ICHEI could consider the impacts brought by the drastic changes in the planning of future cooperation. The research on the innovative ideas and models of higher education should be strengthened. WANG Libing suggested that UNESCO-ICHEI should continue to collaborate with enterprises, further diversify its team and publish more international, knowledge-based production, including publications, magazines and reports.
